Day 6, additional information

It has been pointed out that my previous post omitted to mention the cycling. Sorry about that. Here is the info.

It was a ride of four halves.  (yes, it was that long.)  A vicious few hills to start and then lovely twisty roads round rocky outcrops and lily-filled lochans, a bit by the sea, and on to the Secret Garden tearoom. Still no wi-fi, and no toilets either, it was that remote. Then it got hilly.  I think there were 16 chevrons in nine miles.  But great scenery, when you dared to look up from the road.
A lunch stop for soup and sandwiches; it was 2pm and we were just over a third of the way to Durness.

After that it got worse.  A new 'improved' road blasted right over the hills, giving us ten miles of big, bad and boring climbs.   A planned tea stop at Scourie was abandoned since the cafe shut at the end of the season (last Friday apparently), so we had excellent cake from the support vehicle instead.  Only 15 miles to go, including the biggest hill of the day - which turned out to be the easiest. It must have been the cake.  Over the top and we arrived in a gigantic valley which led us gently downhill, freewheeling most of the ten plus miles to Durness.

We finished the journey by visiting Balnakeil beach, acres of white sand bordered by turquoise sea and grassy sand dunes.  A great day's ride with constantly changing amazing scenery, very little traffic, memorable hills, and mostly a tail wind.
